Benchtop · Last updated July 27, 2026
Benchtop is an inventory and cost-tracking tool for makers, installed on Shopify stores, operated by OriKone LLC. This policy explains what data Benchtop accesses, stores, and shares.
Who this policy is for
This policy is for the merchants who install Benchtop on their Shopify store. Benchtop reads the line items on your orders to help you track materials, but it does not collect your customers' personal information and has no direct relationship with the shoppers who buy from your store.
What Benchtop accesses from Shopify
When you install Benchtop, you grant it access to:
- Products and variants: names and prices, so Benchtop can match your recipes to what you sell and calculate your margins.
- Inventory levels and locations, so Benchtop can update your finished-goods stock when you log a production batch.
- Order line items: which product variant sold, and how many, so Benchtop can automatically deduct the materials used to make your made-to-order products. Benchtop reads only the line items on an order, never your customers' names, emails, addresses, or payment details.
Benchtop requests only these permissions. It does not access your customers' names, email addresses, shipping addresses, or payment information. It has no access to that personal data about the people who shop at your store.
What Benchtop stores
Benchtop stores the business information you enter into it:
- Your materials: names, quantities, and unit costs.
- Your recipes: which materials go into which products, and in what amounts.
- Your production history: what you made, and when.
- For made-to-order products, a small record of which order line items have already been counted (the Shopify order and line-item identifiers), so the same sale never deducts your materials twice.
It also stores the technical credentials needed to connect to your store (your store’s domain and an access token issued by Shopify) and a record of your subscription status. This is all business data. Benchtop stores no personal data about you beyond your store domain, and it does not store your customers' names, emails, addresses, or payment details.
Where your data is stored
Benchtop runs on Railway, a cloud hosting provider, with data stored in a PostgreSQL database located in the United States.
Who we share data with
We do not sell your data or share it for advertising. Benchtop shares data only with the infrastructure providers required to run the service:
- Shopify, the platform Benchtop is built on.
- Railway, hosting and database.
How long we keep your data
- When you uninstall Benchtop, your session is deleted immediately, ending Benchtop’s access to your store.
- If you do not reinstall within 48 hours, Shopify sends a data-erasure request, and all of your data (materials, recipes, and production history) is permanently deleted from our database.
Shopify’s mandatory data requests
As a Shopify app, Benchtop responds to Shopify’s standard privacy requests. Benchtop does not store your customers' personal information, so a request to provide a customer's data has nothing to return. A request to erase a customer removes any stored record tied to that customer's orders. A request to erase a shop’s data deletes everything described above.
Your rights
You can delete all of your data at any time by uninstalling Benchtop and not reinstalling within 48 hours. For any questions about your data, contact us at support@getbenchtop.com.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. The “last updated” date above reflects the most recent version.
